When can I vote early in Iowa?
Early voting runs Oct 14, 2026 through Nov 2, 2026. Hours and sites are set locally.
Is it too late to register in Iowa?
Register online by Oct 19, 2026 if you can. Mailed forms should be postmarked by Oct 19, 2026. Register in person by Nov 3, 2026. Register at your own precinct's polling place on Election Day (or while voting early at the auditor's office). Bring a photo ID (an Iowa college student ID counts) plus proof of address dated within 45 days if the ID doesn't show it. Or a registered voter from your precinct can vouch for you by written oath.
Do I need ID to vote in Iowa?
Bring ID: Iowa driver's license or non-operator ID, US passport, military or veteran ID, tribal ID, or a free Iowa Voter ID card from your county auditor. No ID means a provisional ballot.
Can college students vote where they go to school in Iowa?
You can register at your home address or your college address, not both. An Iowa college photo ID works for Election Day registration but isn't accepted as regular voter ID.
When is the mail ballot request deadline in Iowa?
Request your mail ballot by Oct 19, 2026. Request must be received by the county auditor by 5 PM, 15 days before the election (Oct 19).
When does my mail ballot have to arrive in Iowa?
Your ballot must be received by Nov 3, 2026 at 8:00 AM. Must be received by the auditor when polls close; postmarks don't count.
Can I track my ballot in Iowa?
Use Iowa's ballot tracker to see when your ballot was sent, received, and accepted.
Can I take a photo of my ballot in Iowa?
Legal. Iowa law lets you photograph and show your own voted ballot as long as you're not breaking another election rule.
Can I vote with a felony record in Iowa?
Your vote comes back once you finish your whole felony sentence, including parole and probation. Unpaid fines or restitution don't block you. Homicide convictions (Iowa Code ch. 707) still need an application to the Governor. You have to re-register.
